DVD (Digital Versatile Disk)

DVD (“Digital Versatile Disk” or “Digital Video Disc”) is an optical disk and a new type of Compact disk. A single-sided DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) offers 4.7 gigabytes storage capacity. And a double-sided DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) offers 17 gigabytes storage capacity. A DVD can be used for storing any type of information like video, audio, text etc.  DVD uses a MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) and Dolby compression technique, which is the reason why DVD is an ideal multimedia storage device and provides a theatre quality videos and sound on PC (Personal Computer).

DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) Vs CD (Compact disk)

The distance between the tracks in DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) is also less as compared to CD (Compact disk). In DVD, pits are also small in size as compared to  CD.
The laser spot in DVD needs to be small, this is achieved by decreasing the wavelength in DVD as compared to CD
